Building on the many mandates that emerged, and progress achieved, at COP28 in Dubai last year, the SB60 aims to drive forward progress on key issues and prepare decisions for adoption at the upcoming COP29 UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The meeting focused on critical issues such as climate finance, advancing progress on the next round of national climate action plans (or Nationally Determined Contributions, NDCs), the timely submission of countries’ first Biennial Transparency Reports, work on National Adaptation Plans, and accelerating climate action through a just transition, among many other important issues.

The Aquatic Blue Food Coalition at SB60

The Coalition co-organized with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), WorldFish, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions an event titled “Aquatic food as a climate solution”.

The side event aimed to inform climate negotiators about the progressive developments on aquatic foods in the climate agenda. It raised awareness of climate change impacts, risks, and vulnerability as well as adaptation and mitigation solutions in the aquatic food sector. The event discussed the development of sectoral guidelines on how to integrate aquatic foods in updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), seeking feedback from the participants. The discussions touched upon practical entry points to further incorporate aquatic foods under the UNFCCC. By bringing together climate negotiators and stakeholders from the aquatic food sector, this event created a unique platform for knowledge exchange, dialogue, and collaboration.
