The UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment took place in July 2023. Its purpose was to build on the momentum of the 2021 Food Systems Summit and create a conducive space for countries to review progress on the commitments to action and identify successes, challenges and priorities in order to close the implementation gap by effectively and efficiently utilizing the Means of Implementation for food systems transformation. It was also an opportunity to further socialize the powerful role of sustainable, equitable, healthy and resilient food systems as critical Sustainable Development Goals  accelerators and advocate for urgent action at scale, building on the latest evidence that sustainable food systems contribute to better and more sustainable outcomes for people, planet and prosperity leaving no one behind.

The Aquatic Blue Food Coalition at the UNFSS +2 Stocktaking Moment

The Coalition actively participated in the UNFSS+2 Stocktaking Moment. The Coalition featured at a Round Table event for Coalitions and National Pathway representatives.

With the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Global Action Network: Sustainable Food from the Ocean and Inland Waters for Food Security and Nutrition, CGIAR and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Climate Champions; we co-hosted an event title:  “Blue Transformation: Advancing Aquatic Food Systems for People, Planet and Prosperity”.

The session focused on the following questions:

  • What action have countries already taken to transform aquatic food systems and to ensure that sustainable fisheries and aquaculture can deliver sufficient, safe and nutritious food equitably?
  • What are the priorities and next steps for a full aquatic food system transformation?

The event highlighted key national initiatives aimed at transforming aquatic food systems. Speakers and panelists discussed how technical solutions, adequate policies and innovative partnerships can drive a Blue Transformation agenda to achieve sustainable and resilient aquatic food systems that can nourish and feed the world’s population while also promoting nature-positive solutions. It emphasized the need for accelerated action and commitment from governments, local communities, and the private sector, to work together towards sustainable and more resilient aquatic food systems for a more sustainable future.
