United Nations Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (UNECE Region)

The 2026 session of the United Nations Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (RFSD) for the UNECE region provides a strategic platform to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda through integrated and cross-sectoral approaches. The Sustainable Development Goals under in-depth review—SDGs 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)—are intrinsically interconnected, with agrifood systems serving as a critical nexus.

The Aquatic Blue Food Coalition will be participating in the side event, Local Solutions to Global Impact through Sustainable Food, Water, Energy and Ecosystems.

Aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–31 and its vision of the “Four Betters” (better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life), the side event aims to:

• Demonstrate how agrifood systems transformation can accelerate progress across SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11 and 17.
• Highlight the interlinkages and trade-offs within the WEFE in both rural and urban contexts.
• Showcase innovative solutions—policy, technological, institutional and financial—that enhance sustainability, resilience and inclusiveness.
• Emphasize the role of partnerships as a key enabler for scaling impact and mobilizing resources to achieve SDGs.
• Generate actionable recommendations to inform RFSD deliberations and contribute to the 2026 High-level Political Forum (HLPF).

By employing a formal yet engaging format, this side event will serve as a catalyst for dialogue and action on integrated agrifood systems transformation. It embodies the spirit of transforming together, demonstrating how innovation and partnerships can be harnessed across cities and beyond to achieve a sustainable future in line with the SDGs.
